Congress president Sonia Gandhi meet parti leaders to access damage. the party is trying to figure out what went so horribly wrong for it in the elections in five states, including the politically-crucial Uttar Pradesh. Party president Sonia Gandhi is attending the meeting, her son, Rahul, who had turned the revival of his party in UP into his personal mission, did not attend the gathering of General Secretaries.

Rahul Gandhi, who was the face of Congress campaign in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, today owned responsibility for the party’s dismal performance which he termed as a “very good lesson” for him. Rahul mentioned lack of organisational structure as one of the main reasons for the party’s dismal performance. He said the fundamentals of the party in the state were not strong enough.

Congratulating Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh, Rahul said there was a mood in favour of SP in the state.
