Election Commission given clean chit to Jayant Chowdhury

The Election commission in Uttar pradesh on Tuesday gave a clean chit to Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh’s son and Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chowdhury who was caught on camera accepting money from a local leader in Mathura and allegedly violating the model code of conduct. The RLD candidate would mention it in the expenditure register which would also be checked by the expenditure observer, she said adding the Returning Officer’s report in this regard is being sent to the Election Officer.

I did not infringement the poll code: Beni Prasad

Congress leader Beni Prasad Verma has written to the Election Commission saying he did not violate the poll code. Congress leader said that he was only talking about his party’s manifesto. The Election Commission had asked Verma to explain his minority sub-quota remarks during a rally in Uttar Pradesh.

Union Steel Minister and Congress leader Beni Prasad Verma on Monday said that the quota remark was part of the party manifesto, thay said on his reply to Election Commission’s showcause notice over the minorities’ sub-quota remark. Verma also said that he didn’t mean to violate the model code of conduct and expressed his regret that such an impression is created. The Congress leader also said that he respects the Election Commission.

Meanwhile, defending the Union minister on the minorities’ sub-quota issue, the Congress on Monday said the party leader holds the poll authority in the highest esteem.

UP Polls: EC issued notice against Beni Prasad

The Election Commission issued notice against Union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma over his remarks on sub-quota for minorities, holding that prima facie it was a violation of the model code of conduct and sought his reply by Monday evening. Verma is the second Union minister after law minister Salman Khurshid who has been issued notice from the poll body for poll code violation over the sub-quota remarks.

Salman Khurshid, Union Law Minister told to PM Manmohan Singh on Sunday over his row with the Election Commission and clarified his stand on the issue. they told Dr Singh that there is “no question of defiance and he is ready to accept whatever decision the PM takes. EC issued notice against Satish Chandra Mishra

The Election Commission has issued notice against BSP national general secretary and MP Satish Chandra Mishra for allegedly ‘arousing caste feelings’ during a rally in Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh.  In the notice Election Commission secretary Narendra N Butolia has asked the BSP star campaigner to explain his position by February 12 as to why action should not be taken against him for violating the Model Code.
