The Rashtriya Lok Dal declared its candidate on Kanth Assembly seat in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh Monday evening, where Congress had already declared an old Congress leader Mohd Ullah Khan. RLD declared Anil Kumar Singh as their candidate from the seat along with three other candidates on Monday.
RLD chief Ajit Singh had announced a tie-up with Congress on December 12 last, after which he was given a cabinet ministry at the Centre. In the alliance, Congress had given about 45-48 seats to RLD, especially in western Uttar Pradesh, leaving the remaining for the party.
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi declared that the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh would taste defeat at the hands of his party in the 2012 Assembly elections.
Mr. Gandhi scotched rumours of a tie-up between the Congress and the BSP in the light of the latter’s support to the UPA government on the cut motion in Parliament.
