UPA govt will complete its period: Jayanthi Natarajan

Union minister Jayanthi Natarajan on Thursday said the Manmohan Singh-led government will complete its term and asked opposition parties not to nurture hopes of destabilising it. Asserting that Congress had “very good relationship” with its allies, the environment minister said party president Sonia Gandhi had said engagement should be continued with them.

With opposition parties being elected to power in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Goa, she said they should concentrate on good governance in their states.

Non-Congress government ignored UP development: Manmohan Singh

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh came down heavily on non-Congress parties saying their successive governments in Uttar Pradesh in the past 22 years had failed to develop the state’s infrastructure. Addressing the crowds, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh start the Congress campaign from Kanpur on Friday. he said, “We have sent funds under various national schemes to Uttar Pradesh. Rs 24000 crore have been given to Uttar Pradesh government for roads alone. However, none of it has trickled down to the common man.” He added, “The Congress will win UP elections. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will ensure Congress’ victory in UP.”

Priyanka Gandhi, meanwhile, campaigned in Raebareli, where she touched upon a range of issues including the NRHM scam and Congress leader Beni Prasad’s quota remark.

In Kanpur on Friday as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,  BJP leader LK Advani and BSP chief Mayawati launch their campaigns there. Singh will be addressing a rally at the Moti Jheel grounds in the afternoon. The city has proved lucky for Singh twice – in the General Elections of 2004 and 2009. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will  start his campaign for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls from Kanpur, a city which has proven lucky for him in the General Elections of 2004 and 2009. Salman Khurshid, Union Law Minister told to PM Manmohan Singh on Sunday over his row with the Election Commission and clarified his stand on the issue. they told Dr Singh that there is “no question of defiance and he is ready to accept whatever decision the PM takes.
