Union minister Jayanthi Natarajan on Thursday said the Manmohan Singh-led government will complete its term and asked opposition parties not to nurture hopes of destabilising it. Asserting that Congress had “very good relationship” with its allies, the environment minister said party president Sonia Gandhi had said engagement should be continued with them.
With opposition parties being elected to power in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Goa, she said they should concentrate on good governance in their states.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh came down heavily on non-Congress parties saying their successive governments in Uttar Pradesh in the past 22 years had failed to develop the state’s infrastructure. Despite huge funds provided by the Centre to the state, “Uttar Pradesh now stands where it was 22 years ago”, he told an election rally at GIC ground here.

Addressing the crowds, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh start the Congress campaign from Kanpur on Friday. he said, “We have sent funds under various national schemes to Uttar Pradesh. Rs 24000 crore have been given to Uttar Pradesh government for roads alone. However, none of it has trickled down to the common man.” He added, “The Congress will win UP elections. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will ensure Congress’ victory in UP.”
