Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and former Uttar pradesh chief minister Mayawati is in introspection mode. The Mayawati has called a three-day meeting of her party leaders to take stock of the poll debacle. The BSP managed to win merely 80 seats this year, as against the 203 it won in last elections held in 2007. Today is the second day of the meeting. BSP has emerged as the third largest party in the Rajya Sabha, relegating the CPM to fourth position in what can be termed as bad news for the Marxists ahead of the Assembly polls in West Bengal and Kerala.
While the strength of the CPM has come down from 16 to 15, BSP’s numbers has risen from 13 to 18 in the 245-member Upper House after the last month’s biennial elections to 55 seats.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has decided to take the legislative council route to the state’s top post, again.
She announced the lists of the state’s nominees for the Rajya Sabha and the legislative council after a meeting of party MLAs and MPs.
Party general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra and Ambeth Rajan have been renominated to the Rajya Sabha. The other nominees to the Upper House are: Jugal Kishore, Mohammad Salim Ansari, SPS Baghel, Narendra Kashyap and Rajpal Saini. Of these seven nominees, three are Dalits.
