UP assembly elections 2012, Congress announced its seventh list of candidates for Uttar Pradesh assembly elections comprising five candidates, taking the total number of nominees to 358 in the 403-member House. Congress has left 45 seats to Ajit Singh’s RLD with which it has reached alliance last month. The seats for RLD have been given in Singh’s stronghold of Western UP.
The five candidates whose names were announced are Isauli Moid Ahmed (Sadar), Jai Narayan Tewari (Kunda) Rama Shankar Yadav (Robertsganj), Krishna Pratap Singh (Obra) and Rajnarain Singh.
The 33-year old Lok Sabha member from Mathura Jayant Chaudhary has been fielded as the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) candidate from Mat constituency. Son of party chief and Civil aviation minister Ajit Singh, Chaudhary will face veteran MLA and former minister Shyam Sunder Sharma who is contesting on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket.
RLD, which has tied up with Congress, is contesting 45 seats in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh polls and its best case scenario involves a fractured mandate whereby it gets to play a decisive role with its clutch of MLAs.

Previous governments in the state too had “cheated” people and failed to address their problems, Singh said. He asked the people to vote for his party’s candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Apparently seeking to strengthen its position in Western parts of poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Congress has begun alliance talks with Ajit Singh’s Rashtriya Lok Dal.
Talks for a tie-up with RLD are on, Party General Secretary Digvijay Singh said.
The remark comes close on the heels of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav spurning an alliance with the RLD and asking Ajit instead to merge his party with the Samajwadi party. Ajit was quick to rebuff Mulayam, dubbing him as “anti-farmer.”
Digvijay, in charge of the party’s affairs in Uttar Pradesh, earlier said party leader Rahul Gandhi has been authorised to finalise the tie-ups.
