Congress leader Beni Prasad Verma has written to the Election Commission saying he did not violate the poll code. Congress leader said that he was only talking about his party’s manifesto. The Election Commission issued notice against Union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma over his remarks on sub-quota for minorities, holding that prima facie it was a violation of the model code of conduct and sought his reply by Monday evening. Verma is the second Union minister after law minister Salman Khurshid who has been issued notice from the poll body for poll code violation over the sub-quota remarks.

BJP leader Uma Bharti, taking on Sonia Gandhi in her constituency blamed the Congress for backwardness and poverty in Rae Bareli. She also asked the Congress chief to give a clarification on the Batla House encounter issue following “contradictory statements” from her party leaders.
Bharti also demanded that Election Commission should take stern action against Salman Khurshid for his recent statements on the minorities’ sub quota.
BJP’s senior leader Arun Jaitley on Sunday alleged that the Congress is trying to communalise in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. He was referring to Congress leader and Union law minister Salman Khurshid’s reported comment that Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi had tears in her eyes when the issue of Batla house encounter was put up before her.
