Chief Minister Mayawati and 12 others were elected unopposed to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. The ruling party’s strength in the 100-member House is now 65.
In these biennial elections, eight candidates of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party, three from the Samajwadi Party and one each from the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party were declared elected to the Upper House of the state legislature.
Those of the BSP are Mayawati, Satish Chandra Jatav, Rishipal, Ram Kumar Kuriel, Subodh Parashar, Mohammad Athar Khan, Lalchand Nishad and Virendra Kumar Chauhan.
