UP polls: 25 % polling in first four hours

The final phase of  UP polls  today is in the western part and Terai region of the state. Polling covering 60 constituencies began today with around 24.59 per cent of voters exercising their franchise till 11 am. 968 candidates will battle it out today in 60 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. Most of these constituencies like Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Lakhempur Kheri fall under the Tarai region of the state.

With 28 per cent Muslim voters in these 60 odd constituencies, the Samajwadi Party’s Azam Khan, the party’s Muslim face is one of the tallest leaders in the fray from the Rampur city…

Rahul targets SP stronghold after RLD Pact

The Congress Committe General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is targeting the stronghold of the Samajwadi Party (SP),Rahul arrived here on Saturday for a two-day review of the party’s strategy for the Assembly elections, will kick-start the second phase of his five-day long Jan Sampark Yatra on 13 December from Badaun, a stronghold of the SP. The campaign will cover over three dozen Assembly constituencies, and seven parliamentary constituencies—Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Etawah, Kannauj (all held by the SP) Farrukhabad and Billhaur (Congress) and Aonla (Bharatiya Janata Party).

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi declared that the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh would taste defeat at the hands of his party in the 2012 Assembly elections.
