Upcoming UP assembly elections, a shoe was thrown at Congress General Secretary and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi during an election rally on Monday in Dehradun. The shoe fell well short of the Congress leader. One person was detained for throwing the shoe. The youth, identified as Kuldip, was immediately taken into custody.
Two days before the black flag incident, Rahul Gandhi had to abruptly end his speech at a rally in Banda after some youths demonstrated with banners and posters demanding bringing back of black money stashed abroad.

The remark comes close on the heels of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav spurning an alliance with the RLD and asking Ajit instead to merge his party with the Samajwadi party. Ajit was quick to rebuff Mulayam, dubbing him as “anti-farmer.”
Digvijay, in charge of the party’s affairs in Uttar Pradesh, earlier said party leader Rahul Gandhi has been authorised to finalise the tie-ups.

The Congress said it will fight the elections in Uttar Pradesh on its own.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said the party will have no pre-poll alliance with the BSP or Samajwadi Party for the elections due next year.
The Congress has been eyeing a comeback in Uttar Pradesh, with general secretary Rahul Gandhi laying special emphasis on the state. After a prolonged dry phase, the party won several seats in Uttar Pradesh in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
The 10 observers appointed by the Congress to identify probable candidates for the 2012 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will report directly to AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi. The observers were informed of this when they met Rahul in Delhi on Wednesday.
No one from the state Congress was called to the meeting, which was attended by Digivijay Singh — party general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh.
