After BSP’s defeat in UP elections, BSP chief Mayawati broke her silence to blame Congress and BJP for communalizing the elections which, in turn, made a majority of Muslim voters plump for Samajwadi Party. However, she claimed that “not a single” Dalit voter had deserted the BSP.

UP Elections: Almost 62 % polling in final phase

Polling for the seventh and final phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections covering 60 constituencies ended today with around 62 % of voters exercising their franchise. The final phase today is in the western part and Terai region of the state. 968 candidates will battle it out today in 60 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. Most of these constituencies like Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Lakhempur Kheri fall under the Tarai region of the state.

UP Elections: 7th or final phase voting began

Polling for the seventh and final phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections covering 60 constituencies began this morning amidst tight security arrangements. More than 1.82 crore voters in this phase of polling, Polling on 60 seats in ten districts began at 7 am and would continue till 5 pm, chief electoral officer Umesh Sinha said.

This final phase covers Bijnore, Moradabad, Bheem Nagar, Rampur, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Badaun, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Lakhimpur Kheri in which more than 1.82 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise.

UP Elections: Better voting in rural area of Ghaziabad

Uttar pradesh assembly elections,  in Ghaziabad district polling remained largely peaceful where rural centres registered a higher turnout than urban areas. The five constituencies of  Sahibabad, Loni, Modi Nagar, Murad Nagar and Ghaziabad recorded a total polling of around 58.78% on Tuesday. Ghaziabad and Sahibabad, which comprise mostly urban population, recorded around 56% and 56.6% polling. In comparison, the three typical rural assembly constituencies of Loni, Murad Nagar and Modi Nagar recorded 58.3%, 62% and 58% polling respectively.

Election Commision give a clean chit to coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on his President’s Rule comments,  the Election Commission said his tone and tenor did not suggest any threat or intimidation to voters. the Commission is satisfied that Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal, Union Minister of Coal had no intentions of threatening or intimidating the electors by making the impugned statement and has decided not to pursue the matter.

The Commission had slapped a notice on him for his President’s Rule comments made in Kanpur on February 23 after casting his vote there and had sought his reply on the prima facie charges…

UP Elections: 38 % polling register till 1pm

Thousands of voters queued up outside polling booths almost 38 per cent of the 2.17 crore voters had cast their franchise by 1 pm in sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly election. Discussing the first two hours of polling, Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said, “While the overall turnout was estimated at 9.7 per cent at 9 am this morning, the highest polling was reported from Hathras where a record 20 per cent was witnessed during the first two hours of the poll.”
