UP polls: Sixth phase notification issued

Notification for the sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections was issued, Polling for the sixth phase of elections covering 68 seats spread over Saharanpur, Prabuddha Nagar, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bagpath, Ghaziabad, Panchsheel Nagar, Gautam Buddha Bagar, Bulandshahar, Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura and Agra districts would be held on February 28.

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections likely in February 2012

Polls in Uttar Pradesh are likely in February as the Election Commission of India has prohibited the transfer of officials of the rank of district magistrate and below from September 29 to January 2.

The prohibition order applies to district magistrates, additional district magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates, tehsildars, nayab tehsildar, block development officers, chakbandi officers and booth-level officers.

Chief electoral officer Umesh Sinha said the officers entrusted with the task of revising the voter list could be transferred only with the permission of the Election Commission.

With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled for 2012, the Samajwadi Party will be testing the electoral mood in two of its strong bastions of Lakhimpur and Nidhauli Kalan, going for bypolls on November 20.
