Polls in Uttar Pradesh are likely in February as the Election Commission of India has prohibited the transfer of officials of the rank of district magistrate and below from September 29 to January 2.
The prohibition order applies to district magistrates, additional district magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates, tehsildars, nayab tehsildar, block development officers, chakbandi officers and booth-level officers.
Chief electoral officer Umesh Sinha said the officers entrusted with the task of revising the voter list could be transferred only with the permission of the Election Commission.
