Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has slammed Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for running the most corrupt government in Uttar Pradesh.
Talking to reporters, Singh said that except for the Congress, all other political parties in the state have corruption on their agenda, and the BSP tops the list.
“BSP’s government in Uttar Pradesh is one of the most corrupt governments of the country. However, be it Mulayam Singh’s government or BJP led government in the state corruption and favouritism engages them for their respective terms,” Singh added.

Accusing the Mayawati government of misusing official machinery in three-tier panchayat elections, Uttar Pradesh Congress on Wednesday demanded that the results should be announced only after the State Election Commission’s approval. In a memorandum to Governor B L Joshi, a delegation of Congress leaders also demanded a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to those killed due to dengue and viral fever in the state.
The leaders alleged that the government had failed to conduct panchayat polls properly and a number of people were killed across the state.
Congress has begun the process of selection of candidates for the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and it is likely to be completed by next April, party general secretary Digvijay Singh said.
“The party has started the process of selection of candidates for the UP Assembly elections and its observers are moving in the state,” Singh said while addressing a backward convention organised by the Congress.

The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday stayed the move of BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to rename Amethi, the parliamentary constituency of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar.
