Samajwadi Party to launch agitation against Maya govt

Ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh next year, Samajwadi Party today said it would launch a movement against the Mayawati-led government from next month over various issues allegedly resulting in deterioration of the state on many fronts.

“The SP would launch a movement against the BSP rule from March 1 to raise the issue of corruption and the law and order situation, especially rising crimes against women,” SP national vice president Rashid Masood said.

With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled for 2012, the Samajwadi Party will be testing the electoral mood in two of its strong bastions of Lakhimpur and Nidhauli Kalan, going for bypolls on November 20.

Mulayam Singh Yadav revoked the expulsion of Azam Khan

Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday revoked the expulsion of senior leader Azam Khan, who was expelled from the party after Lok Sabha polls last year.

According to source “SP National General Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav has written a letter to Khan informing him about Mulayam Yadav’s decision to revoke his suspension,”.

Bye-elections of Nidhauli Kalan and Lakhimpur Assembly on Nov 20

Bye-elections to Nidhauli Kalan and Lakhimpur Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh will be held on November 20, the Election Commission announced on Monday. Both the seats have fallen vacant due to the deaths of sitting Samajwadi Party MLAs. According to the schedule announced by the EC, the notification be issued on October 23.

Last date for filing nominations is October 30 and scrutiny will be done the following day. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is November 3. Counting of votes will take place on November 23.

Samajwadi Party decided not to field its candidates in the forthcoming panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh.”During the meeting of the state parliamentary board, which was chaired by state president Akhilesh Yadav, it was decided that the party will neither announce its official candidates nor will it field SP nominees in the panchayat elections,” party Spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said.

Among the political parties, the Congress is the richest. It has an aggregate income of Rs.1,518 crore earned over a seven-year period between the assessment years 2002-2003 and 2009-2010.

For the same period, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party reported incomes of Rs. 754 crore and Rs. 358 crore respectively.

However, the BSP grew rich the fastest. From only Rs. 6 crore in 2002-2003, its income went up to Rs.182 crore in 2009-2010. The Congress reported an income of Rs. 69.56 crore in 2002-2003. By 2009-2010, this went up to Rs. 497 crore.
