UP polls: 25 % polling in first four hours

The final phase of  UP polls  today is in the western part and Terai region of the state. Polling covering 60 constituencies began today with around 24.59 per cent of voters exercising their franchise till 11 am. 968 candidates will battle it out today in 60 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. Most of these constituencies like Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Lakhempur Kheri fall under the Tarai region of the state.

With 28 per cent Muslim voters in these 60 odd constituencies, the Samajwadi Party’s Azam Khan, the party’s Muslim face is one of the tallest leaders in the fray from the Rampur city…

UP Elections: 7th or final phase voting began

Polling for the seventh and final phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections covering 60 constituencies began this morning amidst tight security arrangements. More than 1.82 crore voters in this phase of polling, Polling on 60 seats in ten districts began at 7 am and would continue till 5 pm, chief electoral officer Umesh Sinha said.

This final phase covers Bijnore, Moradabad, Bheem Nagar, Rampur, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Badaun, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Lakhimpur Kheri in which more than 1.82 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise.

Uttar Pradesh assembly elections  polling for the final and seventh phase covering 60 seats spread over 10 districts would be held tomorrow. UP Elections: Better voting in rural area of Ghaziabad

Uttar pradesh assembly elections,  in Ghaziabad district polling remained largely peaceful where rural centres registered a higher turnout than urban areas. The five constituencies of  Sahibabad, Loni, Modi Nagar, Murad Nagar and Ghaziabad recorded a total polling of around 58.78% on Tuesday. Ghaziabad and Sahibabad, which comprise mostly urban population, recorded around 56% and 56.6% polling. In comparison, the three typical rural assembly constituencies of Loni, Murad Nagar and Modi Nagar recorded 58.3%, 62% and 58% polling respectively.

Election Commision give a clean chit to coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on his President’s Rule comments,  the Election Commission said his tone and tenor did not suggest any threat or intimidation to voters. the Commission is satisfied that Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal, Union Minister of Coal had no intentions of threatening or intimidating the electors by making the impugned statement and has decided not to pursue the matter.

Approximately 57 % polling register in 6th phase

An estimated 57 per cent votes were today cast in the sixth and penultimate phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls in 68 seats across 13 districts, popularly known as the Jat land, where voting was by and large peaceful.
