Addressing an election meeting at a government college ground, Accusing the SP and BSP of betraying the people after coming to power in Uttar Pradesh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Friday said there are some parties which rake up issues to spread ill-will among different sections.

Mayawati wasting public’s money in parks and statues: Mulayam

Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav attacked on the Chief Minister Mayawati for wasting public’s money in building parks and statues across the state to eulogize herself instead of development. He also promised that if his party came to power, farmers’ interest would be addressed on priority and their loans of up to Rs 50,000 would be waived off.

The present BSP government in the state is involved in land-grabbing. It is snatching away farmers’ lands for builders, Yadav alleged addressing an election rally at Kheragarh, about 25 km from here.

UP Polls: Rahul promised to work for UP’s development

BJP moves EC against Jaiswal remarks

The BJP complained against Jaiswal’s remarks to Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha, who has forwarded the complaint to the Election Commission in Delhi. Sinha said, “A complaint from the BJP had been received here and the same has been forwarded to Election Commission in Delhi for further necessary action.”

EC’s deputy election commissioner Vinod Zutshi, who takes care of elections in Uttar Pradesh, said, “The CEO in UP has received a complaint from the BJP against Jaiswal and the CEO has been asked to send the same to the EC.”

UP polls: 59 % voting registered in 5th phase

Uttar Pradesh assembly elections,  59 % polling recorded at the end of the fifth phase elections, covering 49 seats spread over 13 districts, including Bundelkhand region. Polling started at 7 am amidst tight security arrangements. Fate of 829 candidates, including that of Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Shivpal Singh Yadav, BJP leader Uma Bharati and former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh would be decided by more than 1.56 crore electorate.

The polling was held at 17,267 polling stations at 11,745 centres. While 2,104 stations were identified as sensitive, 2,256 had been marked as hyper-sensitive.
